The Best Winter Moisturizer for Your Skin Type

As we move into the colder months, our skin needs a little extra TLC. In the winter, the air dries out and the wind gets stronger. This change in weather can cause something called trans epidermal water loss (TEWL). For this reason, it is more important than ever that we use a good moisturizer. Moisturizer formulas vary based on skin type and finding the perfect moisturizer can be very difficult. I have compiled a list of moisturizers that work for each skin type and will get you through these cold winter months.

 Dry Skin

For people with dry skin, I would recommend a thicker cream. Something that is going to ensure the maximum hydration to avoid dry spots and chapping. My first recommendation would be the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

This moisturizer has shae butter and allantoin. These ingredients are going to hydrate, calm and soothe the skin. A more affordable option for dry skin would be the Cerave Moisturizing Cream. This cream once again has a thicker consistency in order to protect your skin. This cream has ceramides which will help protect and restore the skin.

Oily Skin

Most people with oily skin believe that they don’t require a moisturizer but this is a myth. People with oily skin require a moisturizer just as much as everyone else in order to ensure we are not over stripping our skin. One option that I have become obsessed with is the Farmacy Daily Greens Oil Free Moisturizer with Moringa and Papaya. This moisturizer has a lightweight gel texture and provides your skin with a boost of hydration while helping to clean out your pores and minimize shine. An option you can find at the drug store is the Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream. This gel cream contains two different type of hyaluronic acid in order to ensure maximum hydration while being in a more lightweight texture.

Combination Skin

Combination skin can be tricky to shop for. The goal is to minimize oil production in the t-zone while getting rid of any dry spots on the face. The Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer

contains ceramides and an African oil blend. These ingredients will hydrate the skin while the light weight whipped texture is perfect for combination skin. Another option at a lower price is the Bioderma Gel Cream. This cream has a gel texture but is extremely hydrating. This cream contains salicylic acid which helps minimize oil production.

Normal Skin

These moisturizers are good for any of the above to use. These moisturizers are tried and true and will be extremely beneficial to anyone in the winter months. The first suggestion is the one I have been using every night since the weather has changed. This is the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Cream. This cream has the Skinfix triple lipid complex, peptides, and lily root extract. These ingredients will help restore any water lost but has a texture that is suitable for all skin types. The Neutrogena Hydra Boost Gel Cream for Extra Dry Skin is perfect for all skin types. It is light weight but provides a very intense dose of hydration to your skin. The extra dry skin formula is fragrance free but is still amazing for all skin types.

Some of these moisturizers have completely saved my skin in the colder months and hopefully they will do the same for you. These products are all safe for acne prone and sensitive skin. Let me know which moisturizers work for you this winter!
